Navy, do these jobs require any security clearances? Gas Turbine Mechanic, Store Keeper, Aviation Mechanic?

Public Comments

  1. Why would they? So no....
  2. Don't know, but I suspect aviation mechanic is one that may require a clearance, depending upon what you are working on! According to Navy many require"Other Requirements: Security Clearance (SECRET) Requirement. Must be U.S. citizen " In order to work on or near an aircraft used by the Executive requires a top secret clearance! I imagine some don't require them, but I don't have a list!
  3. No they do not of the 3 you mentioned GSM and Aviation Mech sound the best, Nothing wrong with SK but its real hard to make rank. Myself I was a Machinist Mate and I ret from the Navy I always very interested in the GS rating so good luck! Also keep in mind that should you Aviation and you really like it there is a nice after market for work.
  4. I don't know about the Navy, but in the Air Force all aircraft maintainers must have a security clearance. It's not always high level, but they've got one! Hubby (enlisted) has come home plenty of times unable to answer questions about why the long hours or why do you have to work the holiday weekend. There was one week he spent in "secret squirrel" meetings, regarding aircraft coming through and needing maint.
  5. actually, they all can require a Clearance, depending on the Billet. Whether or not the rating needs to be eligible for one I don't know..so even if you never actually have to GET a Clearance, you still have to be eligible to get one, and if you can't, then you will not get that rating.
  6. all military jobs could require security clearances. It all depends on where stationed. My husband was store keeper. needed clearance for some places but not for others.
