Low time aviation jobs?

I am just about to get my commercial pilot rating. I do have an instrument rating to. I will have just over 250 hours of flight time. Does anyone know where I can get a job using my commerical certificate with such low hours other than flight instructing? I just want something where I can build flight time without having to pay for it anymore. **If you have any links or other resources to that would be great. Thanks!!

  1. Aerial banner towing will build hours you could get into that with your current experience. Flight Instruction is the time honored method of paying your dues and may lead to other opportunity's with your employer in the charter work. You will need to start thinking about a multi engine rating to have any doors opened to you. After about 500 hours of experience you may see some right seat time in some nice equipment and also may find work in moving checks or medical lab samples. Good Luck.
  2. I'm in the exact same position as you! The only thing I could suggest would be local aerial tours. Is there a company in your area which offers aerial tours? Give them a call or send them your resume. Another option would be banner towing. If you are willing to relocate, check out aviationjobs.com
  3. Do you have a multi-engine, if not, get it and you could find a regional carrier that would entertain you... provided you really wow them in the interview...
  4. One other alternative not mentioned so far is to find a small 135 operator. When I was running mine, I often hired low time pilots to fly my right seat on passenger runs. The guys got to build time, I had a competent right-seater just in case, and I paid them for their services. I've retired now, so can't offer you a seat, but there's bound to be a lot of guys like myself still going.
  5. Try this airline. They fly E120 and B190D http://www.greatlakesav.com/work.htm
  6. You can go to your local flight school and offer up to do photo flights or ferry aircraft. You can also gain hours by working for banner tow operation or skydiving. Hope this helps and good luck!
  7. With only 250 TT, you may find it difficult to meet some operators insurance minimums, especially if the plane is HP like a 182/206/210. That said, you should try these avenues to build time: ~ Banner towing ~ Traffic watch ~ Skydive pilot ~ Pipeline patrol ~ Fish spotting ~ Aerial survey or you can offer your services as a "safety pilot" for free. Post a note in your school or FBO and see who needs one. Also, you can offer your services here- http://www.pilotsharetheride.com Banner tow & skydive operators can be found in the phonebook or online. This site provide some good advice for skydive pilots- http://www.DiverDriver.com This link has an info about banner towing- http://www.avhf.com/html/Publications/FAA/faa-fs.pdf Call your local radio station and ask for the contact information for their traffic watch operator. Seek them out with resume in hand. Free business cards can also be had via http://www.vistaprint.com Even if these operators aren't hiring at the moment, you will be a familiar face if you check back every month or so and they may consider you at a future date. Re: the Part 135 ops Be sure that you can legally log the time of you get into something like that. Many Part 135 ops fly aircraft that only require one pilot (by a/c certificate or their Ops Specs), so you can't log the time in that case. There are some VFR only 135 operators in fair weather locations and the PIC TT is only 500 by F.A.R., so check your local FSDO and see if they know of any in your area. Re: Ferry flying This job also generally requires at least 750TT or more to meet insurance mins. Check with the aircraft brokers in your area to see what theirs are. I suggest these sites to begin your job search: http://www.findapilot.com/ http://www.climbto350.com/ http://www.planejobs.com/ http://www.usaviation.com/forums/index.php?showforum=68 As well as this forum (it's the foremost on the web for pilots)- http://forums.flightinfo.com/ Here is a link of interest to get a job with Mesa Airlines as a First Officer based on your qualifications- http://www.flightcareers.com/Pace_Bridge_Multi_Training.htm A friend of mine became a CRJ F/O with 300TT via Mesa PACE.
  8. check out Avcomm Leasing in LA and San Diego for traffic watch type jobs, they are usually hiring. Expect long hours and low pay but what can you expect. Also, I hear Mesa airlines is desperate (for a reason...nobody wants to work there) and they are hiring at ridiculously low time. I had a Fed in my jumpseat today tell me they hired someone at 300 hours. You better be a damn wiz kid to get hired by a 121 carrier at 300 hours though. Plus that kid washed out of training and got fired.
  9. American Eagle is hiring 250 TT. But the drop out rate is really high and the upgrade wait is like 4 years.
