Airline/Freight/ Private Companies performing medical history checks prior to hiring a pilot?

Do aviation companies that hire pilots typically do a full medical and mental health history screening prior to getting hired? Thanks...

  1. That information is asked when you get your 1st class medical, So I would assume that if the AME gives you a medical. that would be good enough. Unless the airline requires you to get another Medical with their Dr. I flew with the Army and that was totaly different.
  2. Potential employers DO NOT have access to your FAA medical records. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act prevents anyone from accessing your medical records without your consent. During an airline interview process you can expect a full medical exam and drug test as well as a review of your, airman and drivers license records. Other back ground/records checks often include: *Criminal and incarceration records *Litigation records *Education records *Credit Report *Military records *Social Security Number You can expect the same with the larger freight and charter companies. Smaller operators may not be so extensive.
  3. No--not typically. But yes, some do.
