How to be in the Marine Force Recon?

I am 17 and goint to bootcamp june 1st 2008. I am currenly signed up for Aviation Mechanics as my MOS. What MOS should I choose to help me get in the Marine Force Recon? Do they ever choose Aviation Mechanics? Can I still get in to Marine Force Recon if I didn't do well in high school, I only have a 2.5gpa cause I never tried and didn't care about high school but now I wish I would have. How should I go about going Marine Force Recon? Please answer as detailed as possible.

  1. Call a Marine Recruiter and see what the requirements are. I believe you have to qualify with high ASFAB scores, also your initial boot camp testing plays a part in being able to get into Recon. You can apply for it once on active duty, but you would be better off getting an 0300 MOS (combat arms} classification. Aircraft mechs are not currently part of Recon. Air assets are used to back up the Force.
  2. this is how i made recon for the marines! score high and when you do the initial training of the marine recruit training and the school of infantry which all marine is going to take to learn to be a riflemen, but now i heard that they enabled recruits with little experience to attend the recon indoctrination program you could get in that way. i got in cause my mos was 0321 recon marine so they already assigned me to basic recon course after basic bootcamp but yea theirs more to it but that be all for now if you need any more help i be glad to help you but hey its not easy being a marine recon so i'm glad i'm done with all the hard part lol!!!!!!!
  3. For the most part you have to enter with a high test score and have to have prior infantry training. Recon is extremely hard, physically and mentally. Get an 03 MOS...mortarman, heavy guns, something like that....the daily physical training and the high expectations of your squad/section leaders is more difficult and it will prepare you as best as is possible for recon training.
  4. Forced Recon is the Marine equivalent of the Army's Green Berets and Ranger Units. For every 10 they test, only 1-2 make it all the way through the program.
