- Miramar is awesome! It is in the San Diego area of southern CA. Weather is great, so is the surfing. There is just so much to do in this area when you are off duty. It is just a wonderful place to be.
- Its a very good place to be stationed at..Its a former Naval facility so the facilities are better than the average Marine Corps facilities. The area is very safe and to the south you have San Diego and to the north west you have Orange County and Los Angeles..The ocean is nearby also. There is also a annual air show held at MCAS Mirimar every September and it features the Blue Angels. I can not see one thing wrong with being stationed at Mirimar.
- San Diego is awesome, but not directly around the base. As with all military bases, the surrounding area is a sh*t hole. Run down houses & apts. etc. But what do you expect. Anyway, like I said, San Diego is great, tons to do. North County towns like Solana Beach, Escondido, Cardiff, Leucadia, etc. are really nice funky little beach towns. All in all the area is really fun, really beautiful, and fairly expensive to live.
- Yes it is a decent place I was there for a class many years ago so I never lived there but was there for a week and it seemed like the people stationed there liked it there. If you can't go there you have Kaneohe Bay MCAS in Hawaii it is a combined base though you have one side that is airwing and one side that is infantry. I was stationed there on the infantry side. downside is the cost of living if you are married Then you also have Cherry Point MCAS it is in a town called Havelock NC which is kind of a hole, but you are close to Alantic Beach and only about a 15 minute drive. That is a decent beach in the city. You are also close to the outer banks which has Kitty Hawk and a lot of other cool Islands. There is also the graveyard of the Alantic right off the coast in Morehead City & Atlantic Beach if you are into SCUBA Diving. the graveyard of the Alantic is over 6000 shipwrecks to dive on and you have the Gulf stream there so the diving is much like the tropics with warm water and good visability. You can dive on a real German U-boat sunk during WW2 as well as other great shipwrecks Some of the best spear fishing and deepsea fishing in the world. If you like hunting there is great hunting there. Millions of acres of national forest and also hunting clubs who lease land to hunt on. Then you can always take a weekend in mrytle beach south carolina. There is a lot to do and see there and the cost of living is very low there compared to other cities where bases are located.
