Aviation Ordanance in Marines?
I leave this Monday for bootcamp.... AO is my MOS. Just wondering where and how long the training school is? Also is the training school like bootcamp? Do you get weekends and nights off? Wife/Child live with you during this time?

- You'll probably go through the same "A" school as sailors, so I'm pretty sure it's at Pensacola, FL. I have no idea how long the school is, but I seriously doubt it's long enough for them to let your wife go with you. You'll get limited liberty after classes and weekends. You'll have to earn the "right" to wear civilian clothing.
- Well after bootcamp, then you go to MCT at either Camp Lejeune or Pendleton like any other Marine who isn't going to an infantry related MOS, but it is shorter than SOI. Then after that you go to "A" school at NAS Pensacola. Which should last about 2 months. You may spend a couple weeks either squaring away an office or if your lucky take an MCI course class. Then after that you go to your "C' school, which depends on the aircraft weapons system you'll be working with and if your either a 6541 or 6531. If it's an AV-8B weapons system, then it's off to VMAT-203 FREST over at MCAS Cherry Pt. This should last about 4 months and the first couple weeks should involve painting the inside of a building but it may be something else, and this is before your school begins BTW. After this, then it's off to your duty station. If you are going to take C school at Cherry Pt. and you picked the West Coast for a duty station while you were at Pensacola and think your going to SoCal, fugetaboutit! You'll be heading out to MCAS Yuma, AZ otherwise know as "Hell on Earth" due to it being so fuckin hot in the summer, but everything is cheaper in Yuma and you won't have to drive around a lot to get somewhere. Of course if you picked East Coast then you just report to the MALS-14 building across the street from FREST or if your a 6531, at one of the VMA squadrons nearby. And yes, you will be doing PT, running the obstacle course on occasion and squaring away your uniform and living quarters just like bootcamp, only less frequent and more relaxed. Just make sure you lift weights and stay fit on a daily basis (when your lifting bombs daily, it's essential), show proper military courtesy to your superiors and most important, DON'T BE A SHITBAG AND NEVER BE FRIENDS WITH ONE! As far as your Wife/Child living with you during training, not gonna happen during training, but you can visit them or have them visit you on the weekends, which you will have off if your not on duty section or some other detail that your assigned on a particular date. Well that's about all I can add for now. IYAOYAS! and Semper Fi! Sgt. Crowther Jr., Jeff H. "Psycho"
