Couple questions. If i do a four year afrotc program at a college ( only college in the state with aviation major which i really would like to do) would i be able to switch over services to marines to be an aviator? also, what types of aircraft do the marine corps fly? thanx in advance

  1. marine corpse operates harriers av8, hornets f18e/f, attack helicopters cobra ah-1 /several versions of them/, transport ch47 seaknight. coming are ospreys. that's the mainstay of marine corps aviation
  2. Its possible. Just keep your grades up, its a very competitive field. Good luck! Oh, and do some research on the JSF as it is supposed to replace the hornet soon.
  3. You should ask a Marine Corps OSO(Officer Selection Officer), just keep in mind that there are a lot of ways to become an officer of Marines. I think the easiest way in your situation is to go into the PLC program right off the bat so you wouldn't have to worry about switching over and it would let you attend the college of your choice without having to go ROTC. Doing this would better prepare you to be successful in the Marines, seeing as it is MUCH different than the Air Force. The Marines fly C-130's, Jets (AV-8, F-18, EA-6), Ospreys, and helicopters (Cobras, Hueys, H-53s, H-46). By the way, you can do any college major and still do Marine aviation, but I'm sure you know that.
  4. Marines operate AH-1W Super cobra attack Helicopter , CH-46 Sea Knight and CH-53 Sea Stallion transport helicopter or even UH-1 Huey , as far as fighters F/A-18 C/D Hornet and AV-8B
